About Apheris

At Apheris, we are building the future of how AI is applied in pharmaceutical R&D.
Our federated computing technology enables global pharma companies to collaborate securely on large AI models that accelerate drug discovery, without ever sharing their proprietary data. By powering multi-partner data networks across small molecules, antibodies, and protein folding, Apheris is redefining how science and AI intersect.

We currently host two flagship networks: the AI Structural Biology (AISB) Network, focused on protein co-folding and binding affinity prediction, and the ADMET Network, focused on small-molecule property prediction. In addition, we have just launched ApherisFold, an enterprise co-folding application that enables pharma teams to deploy cutting-edge models such as OpenFold 3 and Boltz-2 directly within their own environments.

We are scaling rapidly and are now at a stage where professional, well-structured people processes are critical to sustaining execution quality, team health, and culture as we grow.

About the role

As a Cloud Platform Engineer at Apheris, you design, implement, and operate the cloud infrastructure that powers both our internal engineering workflows and customer deployments. You will ensure our systems are reliable, maintainable, and easy for engineers and customers to operate.

Cloud Platform Engineers are an integral part of delivering successful outcomes for Apheris customers. You will frequently collaborate with customers’ infrastructure and cloud engineering teams to support deployments, troubleshoot issues, and ensure successful operation of the Apheris platform.

What you will do

  • Work with our engineering teams to refine and enhance our IaC setups, CI/CD systems and GitOps systems
  • Improve and automate our customer deployment processes, continuously removing friction and enabling reliable, repeatable platform installations
  • Collaborate closely with clients’ cloud or infrastructure engineers to address technical questions regarding Apheris application deployments

What we expect from you

  • You have 3+ years of relevant experience, along with a bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related field (e.g., Physics, Mathematics, Engineering)
  • You have hands-on experience with container orchestration (e.g., Kubernetes) and at least one major cloud provider (AWS, Azure, GCP, or OpenStack)
  • You have experience with infrastructure and deployment automation tools such as Helm, Terraform, or similar tools.
  • You communicate clearly in English (written and spoken) and can collaborate effectively with external stakeholders such as customers’ cloud platform teams
  • You enjoy working closely with engineers and end users and are motivated by solving challenging technical problems

Nice to have

  • Experience with High Performance Computing (HPC), scientific computing environments, or platform engineering
  • You have experience working in regulated industries such as Pharma, Life Sciences, or Financial Services
  • You have worked with on-premise Kubernetes deployments (e.g., k3s)

What we offer you

  • Industry-competitive compensation, including early-stage virtual share options
  • Remote-first working – work where you work best, whether from home or a co-working space near you
  • Great suite of benefits, including a wellbeing budget, mental health benefits, a work-from-home budget, a co-working stipend and a learning and development budget
  • Generous holiday allowance
  • Office Days at our Berlin HQ or a different European location (3x a year)
  • A fun, diverse team of mission-driven individuals with experience across leading organizations and a drive to see AI and ML used for good
  • High impact, significant ownership, and the opportunity to shape how Apheris scales its people and culture over the next phase of growth

Logistics

Our interview process is split into three phases:
  • Initial Screening: If your application aligns with our requirements, we’ll invite you to a 45‑minute video call to explore mutual fit. This conversation is an opportunity for you to learn more about us and the role, while the interviewer will focus on your relevant experience and skills. You’ll also have time to ask any questions you may have about the company or position.
  • Presentation & Deep Dive: Prior to the session, you’ll complete a short take-home assessment. In the follow-up session, you’ll walk our team through how you approached the problem and the decisions you made along the way. We’ll use the discussion to understand your problem-solving process, technical depth, and how your past experiences align with the challenges of the role.
  • Final Interview: In the final round, you’ll meet several team members you’re likely to work with closely. This conversation focuses on our culture, collaboration style, and what it’s like to be part of the team day‑to‑day. In the second part you'll meet with one of our founder, talking about our culture and collaboration style.
