About the role
As Apheris’ Public Projects Manager you will be responsible for managing large, high-profile and state-of-the-art research projects funded by German and European authorities end-to-end from scouting through to completion. You will represent Apheris vis-a-vis research partners and stakeholders of the German federal government and the European Commission leveraging your people skills and storytelling abilities. You will structure our public projects and all related processes to provide for smooth execution.
What you will do
  • Scouting, selecting and prioritizing public funding opportunities
  • Ideating the contributions to potential research projects and defining Apheris’ potential role
  • Driving the proposal process and writing our specifications
  • Managing our publicly funded projects in the application process
  • Defining and delivering work packages relevant for the public funding projects
  • Supervising and coordinating work streams across our portfolio of public funding projects together with the engineering and business teams
  • Billing and timesheet management, ensuring conformity to relevant rules and regulations at German and EU level
  • Representing Apheris at project meetings and building a broad network of research partners
You should apply if
  • Strong academic background and 3+ years of relevant professional work experience
  • Awareness of the challenges of working at an early-stage Start-up and embrace the opportunity to implement new structures and processes, ongoingly re-inventing your role and responsibilities.
  • Based in Berlin (option to work partly remote)

Bonus points if
  • Experience in working in the ecosystem of the public funding landscape (Projektträger, project management offices, academic transfer centers)
  • Specific knowledge of the domains we focus on: pharma, healthcare, automotive, manufacturing, financials/insurance
  • Experience in managing Machine Learning / software development projects

Our interview process is split into three phases:

  1. Initial Screening: If your application matches our requirements, our hiring manager will invite you to an initial video call. In this 45 minutes interview, you will get to know us and the role. Our hiring manager will be interested in your relevant experiences and skills as well as answer any question on the company and the role itself that you may have.
  2. Deep Dive: Your second video call will be with a domain expert from our team. Our interviewer will assess your skills and knowledge required for the role by asking you about meaningful experiences or your solutions for specific scenarios in line with the role we are staffing.
  3. Final Interview: Finally, we invite you to our office for two to three hours of interviewing with our founders, talking about our culture and meeting future co-workers on the ground.
